About the Course

Becoming an Effective Facilitator draws from the classroom-based Foundation course in Group Facilitation that the Intersol Group has successfully delivered since 1991. The course has been revised and updated to better serve facilitators who must now adapt themselves to the reality of the online and hybrid world. For the last twelve years, Intersol Group facilitators have been facilitating virtually, in-person and in blended formats and we trust that this body of experience will benefit course participants.

Course Format

Becoming an Effective Facilitator is presented in a six-part format delivered virtually using Zoom as well as web-based collaboration tools that can greatly enhance productivity online.

Overall Objectives

The Become an Efficient Facilitator is a 6-modules, 3-hours training workshop that prepares individuals with foundational facilitation techniques and processes. This course is designed to provide participants with theoretical knowledge regarding group facilitation, a wide array of facilitation techniques along with specific group processes that allow for effective analysis of issues, problems and decisions and the formulation of action plans. Participants will practice using examples drawn from their own experience as well as current and recurrent themes observed in teams. Graduates will achieve a degree of comfort in their facilitation skills as they apply in an in-person, hybrid, or virtual setting.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, you’ll be able to:

  • Describe the role of the facilitator and the value that facilitation brings to group work,
  • Understand and leverage the theoretical basis of group participation and collaboration,
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere that is conducive to productive group work,
  • Facilitate crucial foundational group processes to improve group productivity, creativity, and participation,
  • Deal effectively with dysfunctional behaviour and participation problems,
  • Step into the role of a facilitator.

Instructors

Madalena Coutinho is a Senior Leadership Consultant, Certified Facilitator, and Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the Leadership Development and Interpersonal Core Skills Practice with a focus on five key leadership competencies: change management, leadership and teamwork, corporate culture, growth & innovation, and merger integration. With more than 30 years as a learning and development professional and professional facilitator, she successfully coaches individuals and teams to achieve extraordinary results in their personal and professional lives and has received various forms of formal recognition as an innovative and inspiring leader.

Laïla Ouazzani-Touhami is the Learning advisor and a bilingual intermediate Trainer at Intersol, with a focus on communication, leadership, emotional intelligence, and foundational facilitation skills. She approaches every training project with the goal of helping clients achieve their potential by responding to their professional needs and objectives. Her strengths are creating courageous environments for people to express their ideas and ask questions. She considers every topic with an open mind and welcomes all thought processes.
