Assertive Communication
About the Course
Assertive Communication is an important personal and interpersonal skill. It enables individuals to act in their own best interest, to stand up for themselves without undue anxiety, to express honest feelings comfortably, and to express personal rights without denying the rights of others. It is a communication style that is respectful of others and is clear and firm in intent.
The objective of the course is to develop your knowledge and skills to proactively and effectively apply appropriate levels of assertiveness in a professional environment.
Course Duration: Half a Day
For who: Any person wishing to develop assertiveness in their daily communication skills.
Course Format
This facilitator-led course is intended to provide you with pragmatic, relevant, experiential exercises, and a toolkit to develop effective assertive communication skills which are essential aspects of being able to succeed with others and within the workplace environment.
Specific Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will:
- Develop the ability to distinguish between assertive, aggressive, and passive behaviour
- Assess your preferred communication style
- Describe the benefits of assertive communication skills and when to use them
- Develop your assertiveness – apply and practice assertiveness techniques and behavioural skills in challenging, relevant on-the-job situations to produce positive results and win-win outcomes
